Vertical Tessellations
The column structures are freestanding sculptural pieces constructed of asymmetrical modular units. Various stacking combinations are achievable due to the design. The individual units can be rotated, and inverted while maintaining a match at contact surfaces. The resulting structures are the selected compositions created from those possibilities afforded by the unit combinations. As a complex tile pattern systematically covers a two-dimensional plane, this interlocking system of progression influences these pieces, but on a vertical axis; a vertical tessellation.
Each piece utilizes only one recurring element, or in a few works, two varied units, to develop the construction.
